Susi Chandler |
Name and Residence?Susi Chandler Bristol, TN
Height/Weight/DOB? Uh….women should never divulge these bits of info, but if you insist-
5-5-1/2 inches
120-125 pounds
3/2/51
Team/Club Affiliation? Tri-Cities Road Club, Bike Zoo
Marital status? Married to John for 32 years
Years racing bicycles?
Not really a bicycle racer. Have "raced" a mountain bike as part of XTERRA triathlons, and a road bike as part of road triathlons for the past 7 years.
Years racing cross?
This will be my 4th year. Survived the first 2 MSG series with my trusty Litespeed mountain bike.
What/Who started you racing?
Jeremy, our 25-year-old son stimulated "parental rebellion" in me by saying, "Mom, you wouldn’t like cyclocross because it’s too hard for you, and it’s almost totally anaerobic."
CX Category?
Beginner (Women’s CX 4), of course. Can’t think of too may women who started this sport at age 53 that are too much more than beginners…..
Bike Setup?
Redline Conquest Pro with Durace 10-speed/ 12-27/ FSA Gossamer carbon crank-46/36
Do you have a coach?
Yep-my body. It tells me what I can and can’t do….mostly what I CAN’T do at my age. I also like to refer to this website frequently:
http://davefoley.com/bikeracing/negacoach/index.html
Favorite food?
Chocolate, fruits, and veggies
Pre-race fuel?
Crank e-gel
Warm-up Music?
Collective Soul
Best thing about CX?
The camaraderie of other racers on the course, and being able to "ride around" in the presence of much younger people
Worst thing about CX?
It exacerbates my asthma every time I race.
Favorite CX venue / why?
Steele Creek Park, because I can ride there from my house in 15 min., and because it is so scenic.
In one word, how would your best friend describe you?
adventurous
Other sports?
competitive swim training (I still train with teenagers in the water, and I also help coach the kids I swim with), kayaking, hiking with my human family and my 3 dogs, mountain and road biking, rollerblading
2007 CX Objectives?
To complete all races safely without having an asthma attack at the end, to meet some new competitors, and to spend time with established friends. Oh, and one of my main goals is to avoid finishing last in my category, which is not easy when you are one of the oldest specimens out there!
